Quality

ISO 9001:2015 certified

A certificate is a statement that the way we work is audited, documented and repeatable — not a claim we make about ourselves. Here is what sits behind it.

Certification

Audited by the Zambia Bureau of Standards

ICZ holds ISO 9001:2015 certification for its quality management system. The standard governs how work is specified, controlled, checked and corrected — from the paper arriving to the truck leaving.

For a buyer, certification means three practical things. The specification you agree is a controlled document, not a conversation. The checks on your product are performed to a written instruction and recorded. And when something goes wrong, there is a defined route to find out why and stop it happening again.

Certificate number, issue date and validity are published here once ICZ supplies the certificate document.

On-site testing

What we measure, and why it matters to you

Every test below is performed at the plant, to a controlled work instruction, and recorded against the job.

Box compression (BCT)

The finished box is loaded until it fails, and the failure load is recorded.

Tells you how high the box can be stacked before the one at the bottom gives way.

Bursting strength

Pressure is applied to the board until it ruptures.

The board's resistance to a concentrated impact — a dropped case or a corner knock.

Grammage (GSM)

The weight of each paper layer per square metre is measured against the specification.

Confirms the board you are paying for is the board you received.

COBB water absorption

How much water the liner takes up over a set period.

Predicts how the box behaves in cold chain, humidity and damp storage.

Dimensional inspection

Length, width, height, flap and crease positions are measured against the approved sample.

A box that is 3 mm out will not run on an automated line.

Print inspection

Colour, registration and artwork are checked against the approved proof.

The print is the customer's brand. It has to match, run to run.

Board quality inspection

Bond, warp, washboarding and flute formation are checked as board comes off the corrugator.

Catches a board fault before it becomes a thousand faulty boxes.

Glue quality inspection

Bond strength on the glued joint is verified.

A box that opens at the joint has failed, however good the board is.

The quality system

How control is actually exercised

Testing is the visible part. The system around it is what makes the result repeatable.

Documented quality system

Quality policy, manual, procedures and work instructions are controlled documents. Every test above is performed to a written instruction, not from memory.

Incoming material inspection

Paper is inspected and recorded on receipt against the supplier's specification before it reaches the corrugator.

In-process control

Corrugation and printing are checked in process, so a drift is corrected during the run rather than discovered at dispatch.

Non-conformance and hold

Product that fails inspection is placed on hold and recorded. Release is a documented act by an authorised person.

Certificates of analysis

A certificate of analysis can be issued per delivery, stating the product, the specification and the test results for that consignment.

Supplier evaluation

Paper suppliers are evaluated on quality, delivery performance and consistency, and the approved supplier list is controlled.
